ART
With St Ives’ recognition as the seaside town with the most beautiful light in Britain, it is no wonder artists from all over the world have been drawn here to indulge their imagination and creativity.
With the likes of Barbara Hepworth and Bernard Leach influencing the artistic heritage of the town, we feel so fortunate to be located in such a captivating and inspiring hub of talent, both past and present.
One way to commentate and celebrate the music and arts heritage of the town, is through the annual St Ives Arts and Music festival. This 2 week honorary event, during the mid 2 weeks of September, offers an array of experiences including exhibitions, workshops, poetry, walks, talks and much much more..
It has become paramount to the towns culture and people travel from all over the country to experience it. We think it is an exciting time to visit St Ives, to get involved and see the town in all its glory!
Fun fact for the day..
The term ‘St Ives School’ refers to the artists affiliated with the fishing town of St Ives. The pinnacle of the ‘School’ was during the 1950s but in the early 1990′s, the Tate St Ives opened, an impressive purpose-built gallery overlooking Porthmeor Beach. The space exhibits the Tate collection of St Ives School art and accompanying work, it was the fundamental introduction to the towns growing artistic life. (Tate.org.uk)
TATE St Ives
One participant of the ‘St Ives School’ was profound painter Patrick Heron. We have absolutely loved the celebration of his work at the TATE St Ives over the past few months. The exhibition showcased the full evolution of Herons’ vibrant abstract paintings from his early work in the 1940s to his death at the end of the 20th century.
The new gallery space was the perfect backdrop to experience and explore Heron’s sense of scale, through colour and composition from his large scale paintings. Although the exhibition is nearing the end, we are looking forward to what the TATE St Ives has got in store for us next..
Being surrounded by such inspirational work whilst also holding a personal passion for creativity meant it was fundamental for us to find a way to exhibit local artwork within Trevose.
We were absolutely thrilled when local artists were also eager to feature their work within the guest house. Our well illuminated white walls are the perfect backdrop to showcase the carefully selected pieces of art and pottery. As with everything in the house the pieces conform perfectly with our white and blue colour scheme and serene atmosphere. Some of our current features include Alexandra Dickens, Melanie Uys, Delan Cookson and Emma Williams.
We would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Alexandra Dickens for her talent and hospitality. We have loved working with the gallery over the past 6 years and feel privileged to now be proud owners of some of her wonderful pieces! We wish her all the very best for the future.
